Robyn Colangelo is the creative director at Broken Fence Communication, a design company she started in 2002.
She studied at George Brown College, graduating in 2000 and was chosen as one of the Top 10 Design Portfolios that year. She earned her RGD designation from rgdontario.ca in 2005.
Just out of school, Robyn headed up the in-house design department at RBC Royal Bank for their Visa portfolio. Loved learning on the fly, gained a ton of contacts and a crash course in corporate speak and design—she left RBC and started out on her own.
Since 2002, Robyn has worked with many corporate clients—KPMG, Toyota, RBC Royal Bank, TD, Home Depot, and has strong working partnerships with smaller organizations like Historica Canada (first client and still working with them!), Big Picture Conferences and Rotman Commerce at University of Toronto.
While Robyn provides creative direction (design and management) on print and online projects, her heart is in PRINT. She was trained as a print designer, loves typography and hand-letters whenever possible.
Recent work as Art Director at the newspaper West End Phoenix has given Robyn an opportunity to implement a visual language that she has honed over many years. Her approach is part utilitarian—due to her 10,000 hours working in corporate communications—while simultaneously breaking most of the rules to create a fresh look for a format historically bound with convention.
